​How to Remove Blood Spots from Carpet and Furniture

Getting blood spots on your carpet or your furniture is a terrible thing. Hopefully when it happens, it’s not from a very serious accident.
 
But when it does happen, you must remove it quickly. Blood spots can be removed pretty easily if you do it quick enough.
 
However, if it's a fair amount of blood (more than a few drops) its best if you just call a professional.
 
If you follow these simple, safe procedures, you should be able to handle removing a small amount of blood spots.
 

1. Blot. When the blood spot is fresh, get a white absorbent paper towel (one without a print) and blot as much as possible.  Never rub or scrub. Rubbing or scrubbing can damage the color and/or texture of the fabric, especially furniture fabric.
2. Even after a lot of blotting, there's probably still a spot. So take about a quart of lukewarm water in a bowl, and add a drop of dish soap to it. Make sure its just a drop, you don’t want to leave any sticky residue behind. Then, dip a fresh paper towel into the solution and carefully blot the blood again. What you are trying to do is use the detergent solution to release the blood from the fibers into the towel.
3. If there is still light blood staining, use a fresh paper towel to apply a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide, the same strength you can get at a drug store. Remember though, hydrogen peroxide is a “bleach” and you must be careful with colors, especially on furniture fabrics. It’s best to test an area such as on the back, bottom skirting to make sure the colors aren’t affected.

 
Wow! That’s a lot of work. It might do the trick, but it also might not. If you aren't careful, you could accidentally set the blood and it could become a difficult stain.
